Did you know: Avocados
Do you love to eat Avocados, I do! For humans it is healthy food and there are many ways to make a delicious meal or snack with it. Your dog probably likes Avocado too, but did you know it is forbidden food for your pet? The (unripend fruit), leaves, seeds and bark contain a toxin named Persin. It is harmless to humans, but when your pet eats it, it can cause gastro-intestinal irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, fluid around the heart and difficulty in breathing.
Some varieties of avocado seem to be more toxic than others, the Guatemalan variety appears to be the most problematic. Some dogs don’t seem to have a problem eating avocado at all, but try to avoid your dog eats the pit of the avocado.
You should be careful giving avocado to small dog breeds like Yorkies and Chihuahuas, because the amount that needs to be ingested to cause a problem is unknown and the effects on dogs are not completely understood.
